Manager's Corner > Halfman Inspires Before 1st Game

(May 28, 2008) - Ishtarians, I have just arrived home after watching an exciting come from behind, extra
inning win by the Chicago Cubs.  As I watch the 100 year losers elevate their game to stay on top of their division, I think of the possibilities for IOB.  I am not suggesting that we are perennial losers, but that we too have a chance to top our league.  Our team has a long history of playing tough and hanging with an increasingly younger field of competition.

One thing we have that separates us from the field is a bond that goes beyond the college keggers and stories younger than Kato's oldest child.  The faces have changed a bit over the years, but they have been replaced with equally great people that I look forward to seeing each and every year.

Our first game is this weekend.  I have attached the spreadsheet that reflects the ins and outs from your latest correspondence.  Please respond as soon as you can to confirm your status for this weekend's game.  Well, when the hell is our first game?  We play Sunday at 11am on Field 18.  Expect that the CSSC will change the field at the last minute, but it will be in the same general vicinity.  I will try to make it to the field by 10am to stretch, play some catch and get in a little batting practice.  I suggest you plan to do the same.  The theme for the week is a black t-shirt or your Lottie's shirt from last year.  After the game, we will meet at Lottie's to celebrate our first victory and hopefully close the deal on our sponsorship.

For those of you quick with math or counting every penny, you may have noticed that the cost adds up to more than the league fees.  Before you kick me off the team, I am not smuggling money to support my bad habits.  The extra money goes to fund the fees to support the new Ishtar on Beta website.  John, the unofficial team historian, has pulled together one sweet website to celebrate our team and give you a laugh during the long days at work.  Take a minute to get lost in the stories, videos and history about our beloved team.  You will find the site at www.ishtaronbeta.com.  I should also mention that Tony and Paula have contributed to the site.

GAM, the bats and balls are in your garage.  Let me know if you cannot make it by 10 to warm-up.

See you Sunday.

Your humble Coach,

Halfman
